10 Spring Gardening Tips

Spring has sprung!

As a chiropractor, I see a lot of patients who aren’t active in the winter jump right into gardening at the first sign of spring. Unfortunately, many times they end up injuring themselves.

While spring is just around the corner and it’s time to get outside, it’s very important to be mindful of your health when spending time gardening.

Healthy Gardening Habits:

  1. Warm up your muscles before starting.
  2. Have the right tools for the job.
  3. Drink plenty of fluids before, during and after gardening.
  4. Lift correctly and share heavy loads to avoid muscle strain.
  5. Alternate between light and heavy jobs.
  6. Take frequent breaks.
  7. Wear thick-soled shoes to protect your feet.
  8. Change positions frequently.
  9. Kneel when planting and weeding.
  10. Get your spine checked so you can keep your neck and back healthy.
